If you've been looking at franchises at all, you've probably heard of the infamous FDD. It stands for Franchise Disclosure Document, a rather wordy, (and quite detailed) legal document that you'll receive from your franchise sales representative, sometime during your investigation and franchise research.
Warning! If the franchise sales representative doesn't want to send it, or insists that you can only see it if you visit franchise headquarters, there's a problem. In my experience, the reason that the rep won't send the FDD has to do with either;
1. Litigation.
2. Lots of franchisees are no longer in business.
I wouldn't expect you to know that not being able to obtain the Franchise Disclosure Document very early in the franchise selection and research process is a huge red flag.
There are lots of other red flags. Unless you've already successfully invested in a franchise business, you have no way of knowing what they are.
I do. Maybe you should work with me; I'm an advocate for franchise buyers, and I can help you do this right.
The Franchise King's® FDD is a little different.
